Day 15 - Into Minnesota, Great Bike Trail

We crossed the Red River at Fargo, ND and entered our 5th state, Minnesota. The farms seem larger, the land flatter, lakes more numerous; and no more sunflower fields.  At Fergus Falls we jumped on the Central Lakes paved bike trail, and had great biking the rest of the day.  The 55 mile trail connects with the 46 mile Lake Wobegon trail, and allows uninterrupted (car traffic free) biking, jogging, skating, snowmobiling through central Minnesota.  Thoughts for the day:

  1. These biking trails are a Minnesota state gem.  They are 14 feet wide, well paved, marked, and signed,  They provide access to several small towns & lakes. I saw several type folks using the trails today: young boys on a fishing trip, families, couples, skaters, bikers, joggers, walkers, etc, etc.
  2. I think we saw about about 125 of the 10,000 Minnesota lakes today.
  3. I think we could bike America in about 3 weeks if there was a level bike path all the way across like we found today.

  1. I had no idea there were 10,000 lakes in Minnesota. Pretty cool little fact. Your trip looks amazing and our family is really enjoying reading about it! Good luck and keep us posted!!!
